TRENTON, N.J. – After a busy and very challenging four years, Trenton’s own melodic pop-punk ensemble Honah Lee has returned in 2015 to release 33 On 45 – their long-awaited followup to 2011’s Life Won’t Let Me (GTG Records). The record’s frenetic pace – clocking in at just under 30 minutes – delivers a swift [...]
THE MYSTIC KNIGHTS OF THE COBRA! Petaluma, CA. I’d never heard of it before this trip. It’s about an hour or so north of the Bay Area, a part of CA I’d never explored before. So I hopped in the rental car, and drove through the scary torrential rain to the rolling hills and open [...]
THE FRUSTRATORS!! I love New Jersey. I do, really. I love a lot of things about where I live. But sometimes, California calls my name. And once she starts calling, it’s only a matter of time before I eventually break down, give in and go for a visit. So that’s what I did.
I’m writing this blog post for a few reasons. First I need to be more diligently updating this thing, because I have SO much to post. I’ve been a crazy insane-o person this year, working more than I ever have in my life and doing fun rocknroll things that prevent me from posting as much [...]
You may or may not have heard of Prima Donna, hailing from Los Angeles. If you haven’t heard their particular brand of sixties-ish Sonics era garage inspired rocknroll, do yourself a favor and change that. Like, right now. It’s okay, go. I’ll wait.
After a wicked week of craziness, sadly our west coast friends had to make their way back to California. After a brutal hangover morning at home, Jim and Tanya and I shook off our hangovers temporarily to go and say goodbye to the Cobras before they headed back to the city and then back home.
With my foggy memories from this whirlwind tour, I forgot to mention that Lori, Tim, and Jim and I kidnapped Trell (the Cobras’ keyboardist) and took him home to Trenton with us after Don Hill’s. Muahahaha!!!
Waking up after the crazy night I had at Asbury wasn’t easy. But, since I woke up literally 10 minutes before checkout, I kind of blindly fumbled around, grabbed my things, and hit the road. Friday morning was BRIGHT and sunny (ow!!) and made me feel a little like a wampire. Blehhhh. Creeping out into [...]
After an epic start to the tour at Arlene’s Grocery, we headed down to Asbury Park for the next show at Asbury Lanes. I have to say that in hindsight, I think the Arlene’s show was probably my favorite. Both bands had something to prove. I felt like a proud mama hen watching my boys [...]
The Party! Party! Party! Tour quickly went from an idea we bounced around jokingly to a reality. It all sort of hit me when the laminates arrived. The tour was tossed around between the Mystic Knights of the Cobra and Jim and I on our trip to the Bay Area for New Year’s Eve at [...]
GO COBRAS GO!!! My second night in the bay was spent rocking the hell out at the Uptown in Oakland.
So… this President’s Day weekend was spent in the most fun way I could think of. Last minute plane tickets and plans to see PINHEAD GUNPOWDER play GILMAN STREET. To someone who loves the Bay Area sound so much, this was an exciting trip!
I didn’t know Mark very well, but I definitely liked him. Last Friday, 2-5-10, he passed away suddenly. Really sorry to see him go. Hopefully, he’s in a better place now.
I regularly cover the Trenton 2 Nite events put on by the Trenton Downtown Association. We’re trying to breathe life and culture back into the city by having art and music events downtown.
The church of rock and roll was certainly in session on this BALMY July evening. Thousands of Philadelphians (and New Jerseyans too!!) descended upon the soon-to-be-demolished Wachovia Spectrum on July 21st to witness Green Day literally shake the building to it’s foundation in one of the venue’s final shows. Blasting through an intense set list [...]
The Living Things I have to say that after seeing SO many bands all week in Austin that you can get kind of jaded or snobbish. Or, you can go the way some of my friends went, and that was downright exhausted. I get it, but you can lay around at home. Luckily my enthusiasm [...]
The AKA’s So Friday arrives and again we hit up the kontinental breffiss and I fill myself to the brim with fried potatoes to try and sop up the booze. I know we found coffee Thursday night, but without having to carry my gear around, we were “freer” to visit “establishments.” Hence I don’t really [...]
Things were off to a great start. Still had my wallet, no major drama or fights. This is what I’m talking about. After hitting up the kontinental breffis (eggs, bacon, and homefriiiiiiiiiies), the boys and I made our plan for the day. Turns out we’d all be separating for the day shows, but would come [...]
We meet again, Austin. This year was second year in attendance of the SXSW music festival, and I couldn’t be more excited. With too many bands to see on the agenda, it was “get off the plane, drop the bag, grab the cam and GO.”
